I live and work on the traditional land of the Turrbal and Yagera people known as Meeanjin or Brisbane.

As a person with a lived experience of individual, collective, historical, religious and cultural trauma, my curious mind and love of learning have inspired me to learn and understand the impacts of trauma on ourselves and our relationships.

My training has taught me how our early relationships, attachment dynamics and life experiences influence who we are, and how we are in relationship. My experience has shown me that, in the presence of safe and supportive relationships, we are capable of triumphing and transforming trauma.

To heal is to touch with love that which
we previously touched with fear.

Somatic Psychotherapy & Counselling Brisbane

We'll work together online or in person at my counselling practice in the leafy suburb of Ashgrove, Brisbane, 6km’s from the Brisbane CBD.

When you walk through the door, I want you to feel at home, safe, and relaxed. Soft textures, soothing neutral tones, candles and green tea greet you as you arrive.

My work as a therapist allows me to experience a joy that touches deep within my heart.

I’m filled with gratitude and honour for my clients, who continually teach me about resilience, courage, hope and the determination of the human spirit.

I'm also forever grateful to my therapists, teachers and mentors who shared their kindness, wisdom and love, and who believed in me.

For me, being a trauma-informed therapist also means engaging in courageous conversations about oppression, privilege and social justice. I believe we need to acknowledge that trauma is political, and individual and social experiences of trauma are not separate. They occur within social contexts shaped by our environment.

Our curiosity and willingness to lean into difference without defensiveness and judgement are what can enable us to move towards each other and find more understanding and healing.

I believe we need dialogue that supports peace, compassion and respect for each other. We must work towards acknowledging and being with our own pain, suffering, and challenges so we can be with another's.

My values

safety.png

Safety

Physical, emotional and cultural safety are key. Therapy is a safe and supportive space where your thoughts, feelings and emotions are all welcome. I’ll be checking in with you each step of the way, to ensure we’re going at the right pace for you and your nervous system.

trustworthiness.png

Trustworthiness

Trust between people is built over time. When we have experienced trauma in relationships we earn the right not to trust others. My goal is for us to build a strong working alliance based on clarity, consistency and authenticity so that over time a sense of trustworthiness is established.

choice.png

Choice

Therapy is a co-created space where you are always in control. Any resources I suggest are always an invitation and never a should. You always have control over the session’s focus and pace. Your boundaries (and your no) are always respected, as is your right to end therapy at any time.

Collaboration

I believe in working together in partnership. You’re the expert on you, and you decide how we’ll work together. My approach is adapted to you and your needs. Therapy is not about my agenda, issues or needs. It’s about working together so you can achieve your goals.

Empowerment

I believe that knowledge and understanding is an important part of therapy. I use psycho-education to help you learn more about your body and mind. I also teach emotional regulation skills and help you find the unique body and mind resources that work for you.

Anti-Oppression

I’m committed to ongoing self- reflection and learning as part of an anti-oppressive clinical practice. I continue to work on recognising my implicit biases, power and privilege. I strive for ongoing cultural humility as I focus on listening and learning from all my clients’ lived experiences.

Giving Back

A portion of every therapy session is donated to friends with dignity.

Friends with Dignity is a volunteer based charity in QLD that provides practical programs to assist survivors of domestic violence in collaboration with refuge and crisis centres.
